Welcome to the LSE Austrian Society

Two thirds of our 200+ members are not Austrian and we want to emphasize that everyone is welcome to join us. Our activities include the fortnightly "Stammtisch" - a meeting in a pub - a mulled wine party before Christmas, the annual ski-trip to Austria over the Christmas break and interesting speakers (i.e., Austria's Foreign Minister on EU enlargement). We will also keep up the cultural program with events similar to last years Concert Series in The Barbican Centre, the Heinrich Harrer Speech at the Royal Geographical Society, the Herbert Brandl Exhibition at the Alpine Club and various other exhibitions and events which we organize in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum London. We are looking forward to meeting you at one of our Stammtisch evenings or other events!

					The Society was founded in 2000, when Bernd Silli, Markus Baldauf, Bernd Strenitz and Johannes Niemetz formed the first committee. Among the first years Events was the traditional "Schnitzelessen" in the Austrian Cultural Forum, the X-mas Party in George IV, and the best of all: The Speaker Event at LSE : Dr. Benita Ferrero Waldner, Austrias Foreign Minister, came to talk about EU Enlargement.

	In the 2002/2003 academic session, besides the continuation of the Fortnighlty "Stammtisch" and the Bründlmayer Wine Tasting Evening, the first event of the "Ambassadors Discussions" was the most important Event of the year. A continuing cooperation between the Austrian Embassy London and the LSE Austrian Society provides a basis for more Discussion Evenings at the Abmassadors Residence, where interested Students engange in active discussions on current affairs in the international environment.

					With a generous donation of Award Winning wine from the Austrian Winyard Bründlmayer and the support from the Austrian Cultural Formun London, we were able to organize a surprisingly well priced Wine Tasting Night in March 2003.
